Milarepa (1040-1123) was the founder of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. His life story is one of the most popular in Tibetan culture. As a youth, he learned black magic and kill many enemies for revenge. Feeling remorse, he seeked Marpa to learn Buddhist dharma. After many years of enduring hardship, earning merits, pacifying past karma, he gained supreme accomplishment within single lifetime. He was known for Mahamudra teachings. He had many disciples including Gampopo and Rechungpa. He was acclaimed for his poetry of The Hundred Thousand Songs of Milarepa.
密勒日巴(1052-1135)年輕時候受伯父一家人凌虐,他後來學習誅法及咒術來報復 ,壓死三十多位虐待他母子的人。密勒日巴漸漸起了後悔之心,依止馬爾巴大師修學如來正法,歷經種種苦行與考驗,清淨罪業,刻苦修行而成就聖果,為西藏著名的大成就者,噶舉派一代宗師,以大手印著名。著作包括密勒日巴大師十萬歌頌。
