Causal Ground

Causal Ground; 因地; Tibetan: རྒྱུའི་ས (gyü-sa); Wylie: rgyu’i sa; Sanskrit: hetu-bhūmi;
Causal Ground refers to the stage of spiritual practice before the final attainment of Buddhahood, during which a practitioner cultivates the causes and conditions that will lead to awakening. It encompasses the entire bodhisattva path, from the initial generation of bodhicitta through the ten grounds of realization. At this stage, the practitioner is actively accumulating merit and wisdom, purifying defilements, and perfecting the six perfections. The distinction between the causal ground and the resultant ground is fundamental to the Mahayana path, with the former representing the process of training and transformation, and the latter representing the final fruition of Buddhahood.
