Truly Existent

Truly Existent; 諦實; Tibetan: བདེན་པརགྲུབ་པ (den-par drub-pa); Wylie: bden par grub pa;

Truly Existent refers to the mistaken way in which ordinary beings perceive phenomena — as existing independently, objectively, and from their own side, without depending on causes, conditions, or conceptual imputation. In the Prāsaṅgika Madhyamaka view, nothing whatsoever exists in this manner. All phenomena are merely designated by name and concept, and they arise only in dependence on other factors. To believe in true existence is the root of ignorance and the fundamental cause of cyclic existence. Realizing that all things lack true existence is the very meaning of emptiness and the direct antidote to suffering.
