Thogme Zangpo; 無著賢論師; Tibetan: རྒྱལ་སྲས་ཐོགས་མེད་བཟང་པོ(Gyalse Tokme Zangpo); Wylie: rgyal sras thogs med bzang po;
Thogme Zangpo / Tokme Zangpo (1295–1369), also known as Gyalse Ngulchu Thogme or by his full name Ngulchu Gyalse Thogme Zangpo, was a fourteenth-century Tibetan Buddhist master revered across the Nyingma and Sakya traditions. He is celebrated as the author of the renowned Thirty-Seven Practices of a Bodhisattva, a cherished verse text that distills the entire Mahayana path of compassion. A brilliant scholar, he earned the epithet “Thogme” (meaning “Asanga”) as a youth for his exceptional understanding of the great Indian master Asanga’s works. Beyond his most famous composition, he wrote over one hundred texts and a celebrated commentary on Shantideva’s Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life. After serving as an abbot, he spent over two decades in retreat, embodying the compassionate and altruistic ideals he so eloquently taught.
