Middle Way; 中觀; Tibetan: དབུ་མ (dbu ma); Wylie: dbu ma; Sanskrit: Madhyamaka;
Madhyamaka (middle way) is one of the two major Mahayana philosophical schools, founded by the great Indian master Nagarjuna in the second century. Its central teaching is that all phenomena, both internal and external, are empty of any inherent, independent existence. This emptiness is not a form of nihilism but rather the ultimate nature of reality, which is understood through the correct analysis of dependent arising. The school is further divided into two main branches regarding the method of establishing emptiness. Its profound dialectical reasoning systematically deconstructs all conceptual fabrications, revealing the peace of ultimate reality beyond all extremes.
