Mahasthamaprapta is an important bodhisattva in Mahayana Buddhism, often depicted holding a lotus flower or a vase, symbolizing purity and compassion. He is a symbol of the strength needed to overcome obstacles on the path to liberation. Pure Land Buddhism, Mahasthamaprapta is invoked alongside Amitabha Buddha and Avalokiteshvara to assist practitioners in their journey toward rebirth in the Pure Land, a realm where enlightenment can be more easily attained.
