Jowo Rinpoche; 釋迦牟尼佛十二歲等身像 (覺沃仁波切); Tibetan: ཇོ་བོ་རིན་པོ་ཆེ (jo bo rin po che); Wylie: jo bo rin po che;
Jowo Shakyamuni is the most sacred statue in Tibet. It represents Buddha Shakyamuni as a 12 year old young prince. It is housed in the Jokhang temple in Lhasa. It was believed to have been crafted during the Buddha’s life by the celestial artist, Vishvakarman with the guidance of the god Indra. An ancient Indian king gave it to a Chinese Emperor. Later, Princess Wencheng, brought it to Tibet as dowry when she married King Songtsen Gampo.
