The birthday of the incomparable Jangtse Choje Kyabje Gosok Rinpoche Jetsun Ngawang Sunrap Tendzin Gelek Gyatso Pelsangpo, whose kindness to us is significantly greater than the one of all the Victorious of the three times, comes on the very day the Lion of the Sakya, the Unsurpassed Guide to whom we are so grateful, set into motion the Wheel of Dharma in Varanasi.
Through the prayers he made when he generated Enlightenment in the past and through the maturation of the fruits of the pure merits of the beings to be disciplined, Kyabje Gosok Rinpoche will celebrate his 74th birthday this year.
O Lord, you have worked with skillful means for such a long time to take care of us, your disciples. Bearing in the deepest part of our heart your kindness, all of us, your religious and lay disciples, aspire to establish what is the most favorable in order to celebrate this occasion.
May you display the three secrets of the body, speech and mind of the extraordinary Body and may your lotus feet remain in the nature of the steady and indestructible Vajra without ever come in contact with the slightest sign of hindrance! To this end, auspicious ceremonies celebrating your birthday will be organized and performed assiduously and diligently as to make them effective.
Before the anniversary date (July 14), longevity rituals of the White Tara, the Wish fulfilling Wheel (Cintacakra) will be performed during three days from the first to the third day of sixth lunar month (July 10th to 13th). On the morning of the fourth day (July 14), the ritual of Offerings and Prostrations to Sthaviras will be held between 5am and 7:30am and an extensive tsok of Offerings to the Lama (Lama chopa) will be offered from 8am to 10am.

Speech of His Eminence Kyabje Gosok Rinpoche
July 14th, Nepal
I have been asked to say a few words on this occasion.
Not only do we have achieved a human birth, we possess a very specific human birth. We distinguish ourselves from other human beings through the complete gathering of the excellent conditions of leisure and fortune.
The present life is not something new appearing spontaneously from nothing. Our most subtle mental continuum appears in continuity with our previous lives. It has been thus since beginningless time and it will go on in the same way in the future.
Since we will have to take rebirth again and again in the future, we hope for happiness and good conditions in these future lives. If we have this hope, we should apply ourselves to establish the causes and conditions that will result in the happiness we are longing for.
In order to be reborn as a human, what do we need? The basis is to develop a good mind and to have a good behavior. Do not let your mind become bad, do not engage in bad activities. This is the worst that can happen to a human being.
If one cultivates a good mind and makes sure his behavior is correct, he will undoubtedly be born again as a human being. But this itself is not sufficient. What we pursue is to be endowed again with the eight forms of leisure and the ten fortunes because such a rebirth is more precious that all the most precious jewels.
We give importance to gold, silver, diamonds, and so on. But in reality, they do not have so much value. All they enable us to do is to acquire goods for the present life, like purchasing food, clothes, … But they cannot do anything for future lives.
So, today, while we are enjoying this precious rebirth endowed with leisure and fortune, what are we going to do ? We should not use it solely to acquire welfare in this life. Rather we should apply ourselves to establish the causes resulting in true and permanent happiness in the future.
Today we are endowed with excellent conditions: the precious Teaching of the Buddha is still found in this world and we have met this Teaching. Not only do we have met the Teaching, we have also faith in it. We believe in the Law of cause and effect and in the existence of previous and future lives. So this really time to practice ! We should apply ourselves to practice now. It means we should guard our mind, watch our speech and our body. If we observe all our vows and commitments, we will gradually move forward on the path leading to the state of Buddhahood.
Now we really have excellent conditions. The whole Teaching of the Buddha is present in our world: the different Vehicles and both the Sutras and the Tantras.
It is said :
the basis is the Four Noble Truths
the path is Method and Wisdom
the results are the Two Bodies.
On the basis of the Four Noble Truths, one cultivates the Path which is constituted by Method and Wisdom, and through this cultivation, one realizes the two Bodies.
The causes of the Two Bodies are Method and Wisdom. “Method” is the conventional mind of enlightenment (Bodhicitta). Its foundation is a good mind and a good behavior, which is exactly what we should cultivate and practice as Buddhists who are dedicated to eliminate all the sufferings and the causes of sufferings of sentient beings and to alleviate all our own sufferings.
We then should combine this good compassionate mind with the understanding of vacuity. All phenomena are similar to illusions. They are only dreams; they have no reality. Phenomena are the same. Take for example a person who is dreaming. When she wakes up, nothing remains of what she has experienced. Now, we are like this dreaming person and we have not awoken.
That is the reason why, all material wealth whatever they may be, our own body, renown, prestige, social standing, power, and so on, all are mere illusions. There is nothing steady in the samsara, everything is an illusion. We consider as real what is not real. Nothing has any intrinsic value or real essence.
It is very important to ponder on this.
Until now you have applied yourselves with great zeal to practice. Since many rebirths, we are linked by the link of Dharma. It is important to keep all the texts and instructions that were transmitted since ancient times as well as the practice you are doing. Generally speaking, it is important to keep one’s cultural heritage; it is especially true and fundamentally important when speaking of the Dharma heritage. You who received the Dharma tradition from your parents, it is important to keep it carefully. This will benefit you both in this life and in future lives. Please keep on doing like this.

I wish and I make prayer for all of you to have a long life without disease and to enjoy wealthy conditions. Take great care of you and have a healthy way of life. Make prayers, especially those dedicated to Tara. Keep on applying with zeal to your regular recitations.
