Three Roots

Tibetan: ཙ་བ་གསུམ(tsawa sum)   Chinese: 三根本: 上師本尊護法

The Three Roots are the inner refuge of Vajrayana:

  • Lama is the root of blessing.
  • Yidam is the root of methods or accomplishments.
  • Khandro is the root of protection or activity.

The Three Roots are the basis for all positive accumulations until enlightenment.
