In Dhyana Mudra (meditation mudra) , both hands are placed on the lap, palms up, 4 fingers stretched. There are two variations with the thumbs:
- Tips of 2 thumbs touching forming a triangle with the hands representing the three jewels.
- Thumbs do not touch
Buddha Shakyamuni, Amitabha and Medicine Buddha often appear with Dhyana Mudra.
In the single hand version, the left hand is placed on the lap with the right hand elsewhere (for example, in Dharmachakra Mudra in front of the chest).
