Jangtsey Chojey

Tibetan: བྱང་རྩེ་ཆོས་རྗེ     Chinese: 蔣哲曲傑

Jangtsey Chojey ("Dharma Master of the Northern Peak of Ganden Hill") is one of two abbots of Ganden Monastery.  Jangtsey Chojey and Sharpa Chojey are appointed to the Ganden Tripa, the throne holder of Ganden Monastery, on an alternating basis.

Jangtsey Chojey is a former Abbot of the Gyume Tantric college.  The post is appointed on merit alone through the ranks:

  • Obtain a Tsorampa or Lharampa Geshe degree from a Gelugpa monastery.
  • Obtain a Ngagrampa Geshe degree from a Tantric College.
  • Rise on merit to become a Geko or disciplinarian of the Gyume Tantric College.
  • Become vice-abbot of the College.
  • Become Abbot (3 year tenure) of the College.
